WeSA Academy₩33-88
This workshop introduces participants to the creative potential of algorithmic composition through Max/MSP, the visual programming environment widely used in contemporary music, multimedia installations, and live performance. Over the course of the session, participants will explore how principles such as randomness, probability, and state-based transitions can be shaped into musical form—techniques that resonate across many algorithmic frameworks.
Through guided experimentation, attendees will build their own generative mechanisms inside Max, learning how to translate abstract processes into sound and structure. By the end of the session, participants will not only have hands-on experience with these techniques but also a conceptual foundation for adapting them to other artistic and technological contexts.
A basic familiarity with Max/MSP is recommended, and participants should bring a laptop with Max installed (available as a free 30-day trial from Cycling ’74) and a pair of headphones. Those using Ableton Live 9 Suite or later will already have Max integrated within the software.
