Hessle Audio’s Pangaea is known for adventurous blends of bass music, techno, and other UK club sounds. With a number of fiery singles behind him, as well as an acclaimed LP, Pangaea’s reputation is formidable.
Pangaea’s challenging, confounding, yet ecstatic sound is best demonstrated on the celebrated In Drum Play. The LP was featured on a number of “2016's best of” lists, including those by FACT, Sister Ray, and Crack.
Also active as a DJ since the age of 14, Pangaea demonstrates acrobatic mixing skills that integrate techno, house, and other exploratory styles into a whirling rhythmic assemblage. His approach is exemplified on his 2014 Fabriclive mix, and can be heard frequently at clubs all over the world.
Perhaps best known as one of the co-founders of the renowned Hessle Audio, Pangaea helped initiate the label alongside Ben UFO and Pearson Sound. Together, they have supported a range of original, boundary-challenging music, such as Bruce’s acclaimed 2018 Sonder Somatic, Objekt’s “Cactus”, and Shelley Parker’s “Red Cotton” EP. Pangaea also founded Hadal, an imprint that shares his own output such as 2018’s “You Know What’s Up”.
Pangaea has remixed the likes of Jon Hopkins and Depeche Mode, and has appeared anywhere including Croatia’s Dimensions Festival, London’s Bloc, and Berlin’s Tresor, among others.
