PAARTANZ is a weaver of sounds, who plays and composes music for instruments, moving bodies, and electronic machines. He crafts music with a strong focus on improvisation.
A project of Marc Lohr, PAARTANZ grew up in Luxembourg where he started playing classical percussion. He studied jazz drums at the Royal Conservatory in the Hague, and after residing in Copenhagen, resettled in Berlin in 2007.
Apart from leading his own projects, Marc has recorded and toured with Schneeweiss & Rosenrot, On Dog, LoFi, and the Markus Pesonen Hendectet. Through improvisation, he searches for new sounds and shapes, crafting outcomes that are strongly dependent on the nature and personal input of participants. For 10 years, Marc has been working with dance, and has collaborated with Anne-Mareike Hess. As a live musician in UNTIL OUR HEARTS STOP (2015), Marc Lohr collaborated with choreographer Meg Stuart.
PAARTANZ has an extensive slew of performances behind him. He has collaborated with Dan Nicholls as Person A, and is a key member of Berlin’s sex-positive, femme-forward collective Lecken.
