Sound and image shift through uncanny worlds recognizable and estranged.

Basel-based multidisciplinary artist Iulia-Andreea Smeu aka KITE explores the unstable territories of alienation and self-fragmentation, often through the lens of imagined futures and distorted subjective realities. Trained as a classical violinist in Bucharest and Bern, her work in free improvisation and sound design gradually developed into a practice in which electroacoustic sound and spoken word merges with elements of the visual to shape immersive and embodied forms. Drawing on phenomenology and psychological research with a healthy dose of science fiction, the poetic situations she constructs bend perception towards uncertain horizons.
