Vanished musical inheritance recast through circuitry.

Homāyun is the live electronic project of Paris-based artist Homāyun Kheradmand, rooted in the mystical musical traditions of the Kurdish Ahle-e Haqq community in which he grew up. Drawing upon memories of collective trance rituals performed on tanbur and daf, their asymmetrical rhythms are retranslated, complex microtones and cyclical structures spun into electronic sound. Repetition is used as a means of traversing a tradition that disappeared from his family’s practice during years of exile and dissimulation. Rather than attempting a literal reconstruction, Homāyun washes these remembered forms through synthesis and timbral transformation, allowing the physical intensity of techno to become a vessel for older modes of listening and communal experience.
