Bleeding memory into circuitry to generate new mythologies.

The shapeshifting solo limb of Mara Lalihatu, XAKALELE is composed, performed, screamed and assembled in Rotterdam through explorations of the contradictions of biraciality, neuroqueerness, and polyamoroustistic identities ground up into feedback.

Tapping into ancestral Moluccan frequencies, hand-built instruments, and emotional performances and installations processing Southeast Asian Indigenous practices and underground ethics via DIY circuitry, their sounds arrive bent, cracked, half-feral – shiverings in clubs that never stopped vibrating. Think: Rave Heat. Jungle Rot. Metal scraped into melody. Then de-think all that. This is the language of percussive wounds.

Elsewhere Mara is one half of the duo Animistic Beliefs, splitting performances between dancefloor, theatre, protest, cinema, and séance.
