Germany's former best-known techno temple, E-Werk, served as the venue for CTM 2002. Focusing on the intersection of experimental techno and contemporary music and art, the programme featured audiovisual experimentation that left the rave format far behind, with thirteen days of cutting-edge, international electronic and visual projects. In 2002 CTM also launched a programme of screenings and presentations in the early evenings, meant to further the convergence of academic and subcultural fields, and cooperation with Canada’s MUTEK festival and Sonic Acts Festival in Amsterdam emphasized CTM’s aim to promote international exchange.
