Dahlia Borsche studied musicology, ethnomusicology and sociology at Freie Universität in Berlin, and completed her master’s degree with a thesis about the fragile border between artificial and popular music in the field of the contemporary avant-garde.
After working as a student assistant at the Collaborative Research Centre 626 “Aesthetic Experience and the Dissolution of Artistic Limits” for several years, and besides being active as a curator, promoter and DJane, she worked as coordination manager and producer at CTM between 2006 and 2009. In 2009, she took up a job as scientific assistant in the newly created study programme “Applied Musicology” at Alpen-Adria-Universität in Klagenfurt (Austria), where she also curated the concert programme of Lendspiel Festival. After moving back to Berlin, she started her PhD programme with a thesis about bridging the gap between “high” and “low” music scenes. The thesis was supervised by Frank Hentschel at the University of Cologne, where she maintained a lectureship for several semesters. Borsche currently works at Humboldt-University’s Trans-Cultural Musicology department. Her main research interests concern questions of contemporary and transcultural music processes, thereby expanding traditional discipline boundaries to the fields of sound, media and cultural studies.
