Behind the decks, Romanian-born, Berlin-based DJ Borusiade serves up bold and bruising combinations of minimal wave, dark disco, and acidic, rough-shod house.
When Miruna Boruzescu began DJing in 2002, she was one of the only women visible in her native city of Bucharest's incipient club scene. While trained in classical music, she was particularly drawn to raw electronic sounds — a tension she explored first in the construction of her DJ sets and later, in experiments with production. Her sound favours straight-to-the-gut basslines and the trippy percussion and melodic through-lines popular at Cómeme, the Cologne-based institution which also hosts Boruzescu's radio show, The Dreamcatcher. (It's rumoured that fellow CTM 2016 artist Lena Willikens brought Boruzescu to the attention of label head Matias Aguayo, after discovering her through the female:pressure platform for women in electronic music.)
Boruzescu has guested on Hessle's Rinse FM residency and remixed Ana Helder for the One Night in Cómeme Vol. 4 compilation. Her debut solo EP, Jeopardy, is classified as "baroque and dark slow techno jams"; and arrives on Cómeme in late January, 2016.
Borusiade is an alumnus of the SHAPE platform, co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union.
