Kathy Alberici [UK/DE], a recipient of the Berlin Current creative commission, is a multi-instrumentalist and performer best known for her role in psychedelic doom group, Drum Eyes. Following intensive classical violin training throughout her childhood, Kathy launched into a chaotic journey through jazz and noise music that led her to the experimental underbelly of Brighton, UK, and more recently, Berlin. In addition to an active performance schedule in Berlin and Europe, Alberici has released music independently and in collaboration with musicians such as Jan St Werner (of Mouse on Mars). Her solo work as Bocca al Lupo yields evocative “sonic portraits” which are 100% analog and twine hallucinatory string and synth shivers and loops around grainy, industrial skeletons. She is also pursuing a Master’s degree in Psychology for Musicians.

In conjunction with Martha Jurksaitis, an analogue film artist working under the alias Cherry Kino, Alberici’s commissioned project proposes the creation of a Sonic Portrait of the Funkhaus Nalepastraße, using mixed-media methods that capture the history, ecology, and sound, visual and atmospheric environments of the home of the former DDR National Broadcasting Corporation. The completed piece will be premiered at CTM 2014 (January 24 – February 2, 2014).
