Dasha Rush is a techno producer and DJ whose collaborations with artists and dancers have helped to sculpt a darkly exploratory, subterranean sound. In the words of her own Fullpanda Records motto: “All you need is ears.”
Rush (Dasha Ptitsyna Van Celst) was born in Russia, and while working as a model and traveling from one major metropolis to another, began playing records and digging for her own. Her first live performances took shape as part of gallery exhibitions, using sound installations and theatre performance to explore the emotional as well as technological strata of electronic music.
Rush now lives in France and operates her own techno label, Fullpanda, as well as a more experimental sublabel, Hunger to Create. Her debut album in 2007, Forms Ain’t Formats, combined dancefloor rhythms and basslines with experimental soundscapes, mixing cold industrials and minimalist atmospherics. In 2009, she released her subsequent full length I Run Iron I Run Ironic, and in 2010, her three-track Sonic State was released on Adam X’s Sonic Groove Records: dark, futuristic subsonic bass techno, both cerebral and corporeal. She has also been commissioned to create mixes for outlets like mnml ssgs.
In 2010, Rush created a new project, LADA, in collaboration with Berliner Lars Hemmerling: a new approach to raw, industrial techno. Her most recent 12” is Interception Of Arts (Fullpanda, 2013).
